I want to blog about all the emotions I'm feeling right now as we head full force into celebrating Christmas. But my emotions aren't that of someone who is celebrating Christ, but someone who is feeling overwhelmed by materialism (gifts, what the family should wear, what to serve, what to pack in the car, what dish to share, etc).
My Christmas letter this year, if I end up sending it out, is much different than any other year, and probably way different than any other letter you've ever read. It's honest. It's gut wrenching honest. A little too honest for the general public, to be honest ;-)
But I think that's just what this world needs, a little more honesty please.
Can I throw that word in one more time? You bet I can.
I HONESTLY hope you ALL have a very Merry Christmas. I HONESTLY hope you aren't feeling the same feelings I am right now. I hope you are all enjoying this season and have safe travels and great conversations wherever you are.
Honestly, I dread Christmas. It stresses me to the max. Then, the guilt engulfs because I know that I should be working harder to focus my heart and the hearts of my children on the miracle of the incarnation rather than the mile long to-do list and the multitude of places we have to be.
ReplyDeletePraying that my heart and yours would be taken captive and that we are able to HONESTLY rejoice and stand in awe of the Gift we've been given instead of succumbing to being overwhelmed by stuff.
Have a truly blessed Christmas, Quincey!
Don't worry about what to wear or what the kids wear, although clean is good. Don't worry about the gifts, everyone loves you and no one remembers 2 weeks later what they got from whom. A dish to take? Cream cheese potatoes or a plate of truffles? Why not shattered glass jello, it is your specialty! What to serve? See above food items. What to pack in the car is simple, Chad, the kids and the gifts. Oh and your Christmas letter is fine, just cross the mailman off the list of who to give it to and your all set. (Email to save on postage and save snail mail for those who don't have email). All your problems are solved now, relax, have a glass of wine and enjoy your life. God loves you and so does your mom.
